For anyone looking for the perfect piece of artwork to hang in their home, the search is over! You don’t need to spend any more time agonizing over what print or photo looks best—we’re going to show you how to create the piece for your home with this acrylic pour spin drill arttutorial. With our DIY project, you can create easy abstract art to brighten up any area of your home.

Supply List:

  1. Canvases
  2. Acrylic paints
    • We used purple, teal, black, and white paint for this craft.
  3. Scrap wood board
    • The board we used is 2″ W x 12″ L to match our canvas size.
  4. Drill and drill bit
  5. Bolt and nut
  6. Two 1-1/4″
  7. Tape measure

Step 1:

Cut your scrap wood so that it is the same length as your canvas. This is what you’ll be using to attach the drill to your canvas so you can spin it later.

Step 2:

Use your measuring tape to mark a spot at the halfway point of the piece of wood.

Step 3:

With your 1/4″ drill bit, drill a hole through the piece of wood at the spot you’ve marked.

Step 4:

Take your bolt and drill it through the hole you just made, adding the nut to secure it on the other side. Make sure the nut is secured tightly.

Step 5:

Fasten your piece of wood to the back of the canvas using your 1-1/4″ screws. The bolt should be facing upwards as you secure the wooden piece.

PRO TIP: Since this is a messy project, you’ll want to head to a space like your backyard or lay down a tarp in the garage before you start spinning your painting.

Step 6:

Attach the drill to the back of the canvas, then you can begin to add the acrylic paints to the canvas surface. Vary the directions you apply the paint in as well as the colors to create an abstract effect.

Step 7:

Once you’ve distributed all your paint colors on the canvas, start your rill and get to spinning! Allow the drill to spin for 15 to 30 seconds, then slowly reduce the speed of the drill until it comes to a stop.

Step 8:

Detach the drill from your canvas and leave your art to dry completely before you display it.

Try Your Hand At Upcycling With This Modern Marble Vase

We know that photos can be an amazing source of design inspiration, so this article may contain affiliate links that will direct you to a particular decor item. Clicking on a link may result in a portion of proceeds being paid to www.decoist.com

Home decor doesn’t need to be about breaking the bank on every piece of furniture you buy or every accent you want to display in your living room. With just a little bit of time and effort, you can create simple, aesthetically-pleasing pieces of home decor like this modern marble vase. The old fishbowl you’ve had sitting in the back of your closet for months can be upcycled into something you’ll be happy to display on the coffee table for all your guests to see! Once you’ve finished with this project, you can try your hand at upcycling other products around your house too; let this marble vase be your inspiration.

Supply List:

  1. A fishbowl or round vase
  2. Rustoleum spray paint—we chose white for our project.
  3. Marbles
  4. Hot glue gun & hot glue sticks
  5. Sandpaper—120 grit
  6. Plastic cup

Step 1:

Prepare the fishbowl by using your sandpaper to lightly sand the outside of the bowl or vase. This will help the hot glue stick to the glass surface.

Step 2:

Grab your hot glue gun and begin gluing marbles onto the bowl or vase, in whatever pattern you’d like.

PRO TIP: Clear marbles work best for this craft as they’re the easiest to cover with spray paint. A patterned marble could require extra coats of paint to fully cover.

Step 3:

Allow at least 15 minutes for the hot glue to set and dry.

Step 4:

Prop your vase up on your plastic cup, then use your Rustoleum spray paint to cover the exterior of the marble vase. Once the exterior is covered, spray the interior of your marble vase as well.

Best of 2020: Top Living Room Ideas of the Year that Inspired Us

Every year brings with it a whole new set of trends. And as we come to the end of each year, it is time to reflect back on the trends of the past year that shaped homes across the world and to enjoy the features that we love the most. There are times when trends tend to last beyond just a season or two and end up defining entire eras. Ideas like the use of gray as a neutral instead of white and the revival of more imperfect styles and finishes like industrial and farmhouse have come to define the last decade. As we head into a new and hopefully better decade, we take a look back at the hottest living room decorating trends of 2020 – ideas that promise to shape future homes!

As we flip through the best living room ideas of 2020, we have selected the best among each category to help you create the perfect living space. From the most impressive styles to décor and accessories that made a difference, this is a collection of ideas that will inspire you to revamp your home as you head into the Holiday Season. Step in and discover the many inspirations –

Modern Scandinavian Style

If there is one style that you need to embrace from 2020 in the living room, then it is undoubtedly modern Scandinavian. It is a style that is uncomplicated, elegant and one that fits into any home with ease. Full of natural light, cozy finishes and creating a decluttered living environment, it is easy to embrace this style in the living space. Creating impression of spaciousness in the small living space, this is a style that is here to stay.

Geometric Rugs

Looking beyond style, if there is one striking décor item that is a must-have in 2020 living rooms, then it is the rug with geo pattern. These smart rugs add pattern and sense of uniqueness to the living area in the open plan living space. It defines the area and delineates it from the kitchen and the dining area next to it. As winter rolls in, the plush rug becomes a showstopper in the living room.

Skylights and Clerestory Windows

Ventilation is an essential part of any interior and in the living room, bringing in natural light without affecting passive heating and cooling of the home is a game-changer indeed. Clerestory windows coupled with skylights allow you to create fresher and healthier homes without actually turning to too many windows for help. Bring a bit of outdoors into the living room this season!

Wood and White

Searching for the trendiest living room color scheme of the year? That is not too hard to settle on with the wood and white look cutting across styles and seasons with ease. This is a color palette that fits in with a variety of styles including the most popular options of the year like Scandinavian, rustic and farmhouse. Add pops of bright colors with accents like the vase in the corner, bright club chair or even a colorful couch for a more interesting and vivacious living space.

Greens with a Pastel Tinge

Want a more colorful look inspired by 2020 for the living space? Not to worry as greens come to your rescue this year. Green as a color has made big waves in almost every room of the house in last 12 months. In the living room, there are multiple ways in which you can add a bit of green to the mix. From drapes and backdrop in pastel green to sliding glass doors and floor-to-ceiling glass walls that bring the outdoors inside, you can opt for an approach that works best in your home. A bit of green seems like an absolute must with more nature-centric themes and hues becoming a big part of home interiors in months and years to come.

Gray Keeps on Going

We believed that gray would hold fort as the hottest neutral of the year even when others started predicting its slow demise and 2020 actually has seen the color get second life of sorts. With Pantone calling gray one of the Colors of the Year for 2021, it is only obvious that it retains its spot as the most sought-after neutral of 2020 that will influence trends and shape interiors in the next year as well! When in doubt, turn to gray in the living room!

Innovative Bookshelves

A trend that is my personal favorite and one that adds a whole lot of value to both your home and your life, bookshelves used in a creative manner to delineate space can be spotted in every ‘most liked’ living room of 2020. Whether you want a wall of books in the backdrop, or prefer a small bookcase that acts as a room divider and sits between the living area and dining space, these smart additions improve the aesthetics of the living space immensely.

Edison Bulb Lights are Here to Stay!

We have flipped through the one defining trend of living room in every category – from style and color scheme to décor and accessories. But we did save the best for last – lighting! And Edison bulb lights are the way to go with the past year bringing back this industrial classic to the living room. Irrespective of the style in here, smart Edison Bulb lighting adds style and a sense of nonchalance to the living space and does so with innate minimalism. Eye-catching and dazzling…

The 2020 living room trends and highlights show that the big hits of 2019 carried that momentum forward into the next year. A few new entries like green at its brilliant best for living rooms and creative bookshelves made a strong debut on the list. And we hope 2021 brings with it equally captivating surprises while seeing an evolution of the past trends. So, which among these is your personal favorite?

20 Copper Backsplashes That Prove Chic and Timeless

Metallics are an undeniably hot trend in home design, and they’ve continued their stay in the ‘hot trends’ chart for a few seasons now. While brass and stainless steel definitely find more space in the modern kitchen, the warm allure of copper is not something to be ignored either. The last few years have seen a growing number of homeowners and designers embrace copper to revitalize a kitchen space and give it that inviting and glittering allure. From the classic kitchens that showcase styles such as farmhouse and rustic to contemporary delights that are sleek and stylish, copper finds a place in every kitchen.

If those shiny copper pots and pans are just not enough to quell your thirst for copper in the kitchen, a dashing copper backsplash is a great way to add more of this cozy metal! Copper backsplashes do require some care, but they age beautifully and give your kitchen an even more charming appeal with time. Sometimes sensational and seemingly organic on other occasions, here are 20 kitchens that embrace the beauty of a chic copper backsplash.

Copper Backsplashes for Modern Kitchens

There are plenty of ways that you can craft a striking copper backsplash that gives your kitchen loads of individuality and a striking metallic glint. Copper penny tiles are definitely our favorite among them all, as they not only bring the goodness of copper along with them, but also provide geo style and a sense of uniqueness. Small hexagonal copper tiles also offer similar perks, while larger square and rectangular pieces offer a more conventional look. In the modern kitchen, you can pick from a range of copper finishes that vary from hammered tiles to salvaged copper sheets and those with a cool, oxidized finish.

Copper Tile Backsplashes

Copper tiles definitely develop a patina with age, and if you are not really a big fan of this aspect, then you might as well stay away from copper backsplashes in the kitchen. It is this natural gaining that sets copper apart from brass and makes it such an inherent part of kitchens with styles such as rustic, traditional, farmhouse and Mediterranean. The copper-tiled backsplash can either be contained to the small wall behind the stove, or you can choose a full-fledged backsplash in metal that covers the entire wall behind the kitchen countertop.

Metallic Glint and Pattern

The copper backsplash in the kitchen is not just about textural contrast alone. Contemporary copper backsplashes can offer a lot more, as they usher in patterns that range from the simple and uncomplicated squares to ornate tiles that take you back to lavish Mediterranean kitchens. Since copper is so very malleable, it can be beaten into thin sheets that offer a wide range of shapes and motifs. From quilted copper sheets to those smart perforated copper plates that offer a quirky look inside an eclectic kitchen, the options are endless!

Copper Sheet Backsplashes

You do not always need fancy copper tiles and large sheets with carefully crafted patterns to create a stunning copper backsplash in the kitchen. In fact, a simple and plain sheet of copper makes a big difference to the ambiance inside a contemporary kitchen and also plays into the overall theme. Copper sheets are easy to work with, and while you might want to check both with local building codes and your architect before you opt for one, the end result is well worth that extra bit of effort.
