Can you believe that Easter is less than two weeks away?! This year I was looking for a way to personalize an earthy, natural Easter basket, and I couldn’t help but be inspired by images of peachy-pink pom poms embellishing storage baskets and totes. Hence today’s DIY pom pom Easter basket was born! Throw in a dash of lavender, and you have two of this season’s hottest colors decorating a retro-style basket with Boho chic flair! While this Easter basket project is perfect for kids, it’s also fun for adults who love keeping up with the latest design trends. Continue reading for all of the crafty details…

Project Supplies

Did I mention that this project is not only easy to create, it’s super affordable! Here’s what you’ll need to get started…

• a natural woven Easter basket
• yarn in the colors of your choice
• scissors

I enjoyed using yarn of different thicknesses. The blush-hued selection is bulky gauge wool roving yarn, while the pale lavender is much thinner. The bamboo basket shown below (from Target) was a mere $6. And it’s big!

In case you’re interested, the lavender patterned blanket featured in this shoot is designed by Dusen Dusen, previously available through The Land of Nod. Let’s move on to the pom poms, shall we?!

DIY Pom Poms

Crafting your own pom poms is super easy, especially when you use thick yarn like this peachy wool roving yarn. With a little patience, you’ll have a fluffy pom pom in no time.

Step 1: Wind the yarn around the palm of your hand to create a bundle of loops.

Step 2: Wrap a piece of yarn around the middle of the bundle and tie with a double knot.

Step 3: Cut the ends of the loops with a pair of scissors.

Step 4: Fluff your pom pom and trim the ends if need be! Be careful not to trim the ends of the longer string securing the middle of your pom pom (they will come in handy later).

Step 5: Use your fingers to fray the wool roving yarn for an extra shaggy touch. Trim again if you wish for a neat finish.

It’s Basket Decorating Time

Remember that piece of yarn you used to secure the middle of your pom pom while you were crafting it?! You should have a couple of loose ends to work with. Work one end through a hole in the basket and use the other as you tie a knot. Now you’ve secured your pom poms! As you can see, I chose blush and lavender yarn to embellish my Easter basket.

While it took a little bit of patience, I frayed the yarn of the lavender pom pom as well for some extra texture. Love the look but short on time? Use thicker yarn. You get fluffier pom poms faster!

Keep in mind that you can get a very different look with different hues. Peachy-pink and lavender definitely celebrate Easter pastels in full effect, but earthier or bolder colors can create an even more modern feel.

This basket is great for an Easter portrait with your little one! Of course, you can enjoy filling the basket with goodies, and pom poms give it a full look from the outside as well.

It’s hard to believe that Easter is less than a month away! Are you hosting this year? Or perhaps you’re enjoying decorating for the holiday now that spring is in sight. When it comes to Easter colors, pastels are always perfect, but this year it might be fun to try a more vibrant palette. Taking my inspiration from the new Sugar & Cloth entertaining and parties product line, I’ve put together a few seasonal vignettes that showcase candy colors, as well as punches of radiant reds and pinks. Now who’s ready to plan Easter brunch?!

Planning Your Palette

When you plan your Easter palette this year (for your decor, your table, or any parties and gatherings you may be hosting), it never hurts to go for a touch of the unexpected. Check out the eye-catching hues in these multi-color and gold confetti-print napkins?! Soft blue, golden yellow, pink and peach are a fabulous blend, but the addition of red is what really makes these party napkins stand out:

When a color like fiery red is involved, Easter hues such as lavender and mint become edgy as they’re thrown into the mix. This keeps your table from having a matchy-matchy feel. Most importantly, have fun. This holiday has special meaning to many, so staying focused on what’s really important will keep you from stressing over the small stuff.

Adding Color with Food and Beverages

If you’re looking for a cocktail that tastes like spring in a glass, you’ve got to try The Orange Blossom! It’s super easy to throw together, and the best part is its affordability. You can find the recipe below. Before I share it, here’s a quick reminder to add color with your food and beverages. One easy way to infuse your dishes and drinks with vibrancy is by incorporating edible flowers.

You can often find them in the herb section of the produce department. It’s important to seek out blooms that are cultivated for consuming, rather than simply visiting the floral department. Otherwise you may find yourself ingesting insecticide, which is definitely no good! Another way to add color is by adding citrus zest to appetizers such as goat cheese and crackers. Not only does zest add color, it brings more flavor to the mix as well. Zesty!

The Orange Blossom

It’s always fun to offer guests a signature cocktail, and this is one you’ll be sipping all spring…

The Orange Blossom

• 2 ounces fresh-squeezed orange juice
• 1 ounce honey simple syrup
• champagne to top off your concoction
• edible flowers

Make your simple syrup ahead of time by heating one part honey to one part water (such as 1/2 cup of each) in a saucepan over the stove until the honey and water have seamlessly blended. Set aside/refrigerate to cool. Add your fresh-squeezed orange juice and honey to a coupe glass and top off with champagne. Sprinkle in an edible flower or three! Serves one.

The flowers add a blossomy taste to this delicious drink and give it its signature flavor. If you want to make a big batch of the cocktail for a party…simply combine two parts orange juice with one part honey simple syrup in a pitcher ahead of time. Yes, you can cheat and add some store-bought orange juice! Throw in a handful of edible flowers to get the flavor going. When it’s party or gathering time, guests can serve themselves by pouring the mixture into a coupe glass (those who don’t want the drink to be too sweet can add less of the mix). Top with champagne and edible flowers, and it’s done!

Well, almost as much.

To get the look, incorporate interesting elements such as a woven hamper and a tasseled shower curtain. Stripes create a nautical vibe, while bright pops of aqua and a child-friendly plant or two tie it all together.
